Australian water treatment boosts wine grape industryPosted on November 23, 2021
If you’ve noticed a change for the better in the quality of Australian wine grapes, fruit and vegetables lately, chances are DELTAwater solutions is involved.
Wine grape, fruit and vegetable growers in regions including South Australia’s Riverland and Western Australia’s Swan Valley are experiencing faster growth, improved yields and better water penetration in soils after treating their water with DELTAwater’s 100% Australian designed and manufactured water treatment technology.
Renmark-based irrigation agronomist Trevor Sluggett says grape and other fruit and vegetable growers are so pleased with DELTAwater’s results in fixing irrigation systems blocked with algae, that they’ve returned for more units.
“Interest in the DELTAwater solutions conditioners continues to be high as growers hunt for ways to boost irrigation system efficiency, lower water use and improve yields,” he says.
Riverland grape grower Dino Sigismondi, who with wife Veronica grows grapes on about 250 hectares on the Murray River, says it was a ‘very good day’ when he installed his first DELTAwater conditioner on his drip irrigation system.
Since then Dino has added another five units to his vineyard operation after the technology proved resoundingly successful in banishing algae from his irrigation systems.
“Since installing my DELTAwater conditioners I haven’t had to chlorinate the drippers and I used to do that twice a year. We’ve now got a clean irrigation system, a more efficient system, the pressure is higher and the vines are a lot healthier too.”
In the WA Swan Valley Stephen Kraljevich installed a DELTAwater conditioner to fix problems caused by high sodium and chloride levels in his bore water at Twin Hill Wines, established in the 1930s.
The DELTA-treatment has increased grape yields with one area of the vineyard experiencing a jump from 600 to 900 cases. The water treatment system has also stopped leaf burn and resulted in improved penetration of water into the soil and reduced fertiliser use.
“We used to have to put a lot of fertiliser on to get the vines the right colour, and we’re using less now to get them growing how we want them to. They are greener and picking up the fertiliser a lot better since installing the DELTA water treatment system,” Stephen says.
Alex and Dianne Panov established DELTAwater solutions almost 30 years ago to manufacture 100% Australian customised water treatment systems for salinity, calcium-scale, iron, water hardness and corrosion. The family-owned business is based in Newcastle and distributes its products worldwide.
