DELTAwater keeps production going for stock and irrigation farmers

One thing all food production relies on is access to high quality water, with many of the biggest food-producing regions using bore water to keep up with production. But with high mineral and salinity levels in many bore supplies, stock and irrigation producers have been turning to 100% Australian water treatment company DELTAwater solutions for more than 25 years to keep their businesses on track.

And this is particularly important during coronavirus (COVID-19), which has highlighted the significant contribution of the Australian agricultural industry in providing quality fresh food for a nation in lockdown.

Alex and Dianne Panov founded DELTAwater solutions to treat water quality problems including salinity, scale build-up caused by calcium and magnesium, water hardness, iron and corrosion.

With their manufacturing plant in Newcastle, the company’s water treatment products treat problem water across Australia and in other countries including New Zealand, the US and South Africa.

Bore water NSW

NSW farmer Stephen Way at Deniliquin says DELTAwater solutions ‘chucked a big lifeline’ to their farm when they first installed the technology in 2008, and has been providing that lifeline ever since. “The DELTA unit paid for itself many times over in the first year, it saved our farm in the last drought and more than a decade later, it continues to produce excellent results in treating previously unusable bore water,” he says.

Irrigation NSW

Salty bore water was wreaking havoc on western NSW farmer Frank Cox’s 40-hectare irrigated lucerne paddock but his crops are flourishing after installing a custom-designed DELTA water treatment system. Reliant upon a salty bore for his centre pivot irrigated lucerne, Frank’s first planting after purchasing the property was a disaster.

The irrigated oats failed to develop any higher than 600mm. Even more alarming was the oats he planted at the same time on non-irrigated land overtook the irrigated plants to grow to over one metre.

Within two cuts after installing his DELTA system he went from producing one quarter of a tonne per acre to one and a quarter tonnes. Within a month he had more than made back his investment in his new water treatment system. Results remain consistent, with his crops still averaging around one tonne.

“I have more confidence when making decisions because my income has basically turned around from $7000 a month to $30,000 a month. The DELTA has a huge part to play in that,” Frank says.

Stock system South Australia

Station owner Steven McCracken, who farms a 5000-hectare property on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula says his DELTA conditioner rapidly cleared a ‘frustrating’ build-up of minerals that had blocked his main stock-irrigation pipe.

“I had sheep and cattle drinking on the line and I was not getting enough water through the system. I put my DELTA unit on the line and it unblocked the pipe within days. It was a great relief,” he said.

Steven’s success in treating his water with the DELTA bore water treatment system prompted him to buy more conditioners for his property.
