DELTA technology provides vital boost to rural Australia

Stock watering systems

NSW Angus stud owner Netta Holmes Lee says the DELTA technology has brought quality water to her cattle, reliability to her reticulated watering system and peace to her mind. The Wellington district farmer installed her first DELTA water treatment unit at her NSW property ‘Noonee Nyrang’ in 2005 after pipes suppyling her troughs blocked due to scale build-up from hard bore water.

“We totally rely on a bore for our livestock,” Netta says. “We basically did a major upgrade of that system in 2001 and within 18 months some of those new pipes were starting to block with the calcium carbonate. At its worst we had an inch and a half pipe completely blocked in that time. I knew we had to look at a better way to deliver our water.”

DELTAwater solutions developed a farm-wide water treatment solution strategy for Netta to roll out for her network of tanks, pipes and troughs over several years. They started with the worst pipe, installing a Heavy Duty SL water treatment unit on an outlet at the head of the pipe with the biggest scale problem. “In the first month, with the combination of the DELTA water treatment and regular flushing, we could see the calcium’s white powder and small flakes coming through the pipe,” Netta says. “We have had very little trouble after that. I’ve seen first-hand that it works, saves lots of time and lots of worries. I’d certainly recommend it, particularly to fix the scale problem in pipes.”

Irrigation and domestic

Long-time central western NSW farmer John O’Donnell knows you need quality water to germinate lucerne. Salty irrigation bore water was hindering growth of crops and pastures on his Condobolin district property “Merriwee”.

But when he saw those tiny lucerne seeds starting to shoot after installing a DELTA water treatmentunit on his irrigation bore, he knew he’d backed a winner. The DELTA water treatment technologyhas turned water supply with high salt content into quality liquid and John’s pastures and crops continue to grow with extra vigour.

John and son-in-law Guy Shoemark adopted the DELTA water treatment technology after fearing that flood irrigating with the property’s bore supply was slowly poisoning their soil with salt. “We were worried about soil problems if we continued using the bore water,’’ John says. “The DELTA certainly works. There are no worries about using bore water now. We let it run and it’s all right as long as it’s got a DELTA on it.”

John and Guy also installed the DELTA water treatment system at the O’Donnell and Shoemark households to treat supply from a smaller bore, resulting in quality water for their gardens, their homes and their stock.
