Diverse solutions for diverse water problems

SA Riverland grape grower Dino Sigismondi reckons it was a ‘very good day’ when he first installed the DELTAwater solutions treatment technology on his drip irrigation system supplied by river water.

Dino added another five custom designed water treatment units to his vineyard after the technology proved resoundingly successful in banishing algae from his irrigation systems.

“Since installing the DELTAs we’ve got a clean irrigation system, a more efficient system, the pressure is higher and the vines look a lot healthier too.”

DELTAwater solutions, founded 30 years ago by Alex and Dianne Panov, designs and manufactures water treatment products in Newcastle. Having their own manufacturing plant and a focus on testing their customers’ water first, enables the family-owned company to develop new and innovative ways to treat specific water problems.

“One size does not fit all when it comes to water treatment for salinity, iron, algae and calcium-scale build-up caused by poor quality bore water, river and dam water,” Alex said.

“The first thing we do is gain a thorough understanding of the quality of water through our water testing laboratory, then we work closely with our customers to find a product that meets the needs of their business.”

DELTAwater solutions products are power, maintenance and chemical free and treat unlimited volumes of water.

Stock watering systems

Steven McCracken, who farms a 5000-hectare property on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, says his DELTA conditioner rapidly cleared a ‘frustrating’ build-up of minerals that blocked his main stock-irrigation pipe.

“I had sheep and cattle drinking on the line and I was not getting enough water through the system. I put my DELTA unit on the line and it unblocked the pipe within days. It was a great relief,” he said.

Fruit and vegetable industry

Torrens Valley Orchards in SA, one of Australia’s largest cherry growers, installed a DELTA Bore Hole Unit to treat their pipes and pumps connected to their bore water supply which were blocking with iron. Within three months their pumps and pipes were clear and have remained that way ever since.

Mining bore water treatment

This month DELTAwater solutions sent a 500-kilogram water treatment conditioner to a WA mine site which experiences significant scale build-up in their pumps and pipes during dewatering.

“The EC levels of the bore water at this mine site is 250,000 EC (sea water is around 52,000 EC). They are pumping their bore water through a 200mm pipe, and in less than 24 hours their pumps and pipes get blocked and the maintenance crew is working continually to clear the scale build-up,” Alex said.

“They don’t need to use the bore water for any other purpose other than moving it from point A to point B without having to continually unblock their equipment. Their priority was for a product that saves them time, maintenance and cost and we were able to design and manufacture a DELTA to suit.”
