Delta solution for cotton research facility
Six months of magnetic water treatment with a Delta CU40 conditioner has led to major cost-savings for Deltapine Cotton Research Facility in Narrabri, NSW.
The conditioner eliminated calcium scale and algal growth from 50 metres of cooling pads along the full length of a glasshouse wall.
Two sumps each supplied water to 25 metres of cooling pads. The water then travelled back to the sumps for recycling. A Delta CU40 was installed on a pipe after the pump, drawing from one of the sumps.
After three weeks most of the algae was dead and at the bottom of the sump and the water was clear and the spin filter after the pump on the treated circuit was almost clear of algae growth.
After six months the treated section of pads was completely free of calcium scale build-up and algae growth. Before installing the Delta CU40, Deltapine was considering replacing the 50 metres of pads at a cost of $8500.
Abattoir success
A Casino abattoir is saving money on maintenance as a result of installing a Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner. The abattoir called on DELTAwater solutions to find a solution in combating the build-up of scale in heat exchangers.
Every fortnight, staff had to disassemble the exchangers for cleaning which was both costly and time-consuming. Installation of a Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner has meant the heat exchangers now only require attention every six months.
Delta Treatment Keeps Evaporative Cooling Pads Clean
A trial using Delta Magnetic Water Treatment to eliminate heavy calcium scale build-up on evaporative cooling pads in Queensland has proved a major success. A Delta CU40 magnetic conditioner, installed on PVC pipe carrying water from a pump to the pads, dramatically improved conditions for an Inghams contract grower at Beaudesert.
Scale had built up on all surfaces inside and outside cooling pads, preventing the pads from getting wet. This greatly reduced the system’s cooling efficiency. Scale build-up on edges of the pads was also hard and difficult to remove. After six weeks of Delta Magnetic Water Treatment, calcium scale was no longer evident on the pads’ internal surfaces. Light scale on outer edges were ‘soft and furry’ and easily brushed off by hand.
The trial showed that DELTA treatment prevented calcium scale build-up and broke down existing scale.
Struvite build-up solved
Export abattoir Southern Meats of Goulburn successfully solved a struvite issue by applying DELTAwater solutions technology. Southern Meats contacted Delta in August 2000 with a problem involving a crystalline scale build-up in their effluent-irrigation system.
Wash-down water from holding pens and the abattoir is pumped into a series of three effluent dams. The resulting effluent is pumped from the third dam through a 150 millimetre pipe, one kilometre in one direction and three kilometres in another to two large mobile irrigators.
The crystalline build-up was so bad in the irrigation mail line that only one irrigator could be used. Tests showed the build up to be pure struvite, a common problem in abattoirs and piggeries and costly and time-consuming to remove.
DELTAwater solutions recommended the installation of a SU-IN200SB Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner onto the suction line of the pump at the third effluent dam to keep the pump and the pipeline clean of struvite build-up.
The Delta SU-IN200SB was installed early November 2000. In mid February 2001, Southern Meats reported an increase in water pressure in the irrigation main line by 10 psi. They were also able to operate both traveling irrigators at the one time, for the first time in three years. This increase in pressure was a direct result of the Delta conditioner gradually descaling the struvite in the pipe.
The pump was scheduled to go out of service to descale struvite build up in May, 2001 but this became unnecessary.
Gold mine in Western Australia
The installation of a Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner has proven a major bonus for a gold mine in Western Australia.
After only three days of dewatering the mine there was a considerable build-up of salt in a poly pipe. To clear blockages, maintenance crews needed to use sledge hammers on the outside of the pipes to break up salt build-up at joins. This didn’t always work so the pipes had to be cut to clear the line and then re-welded. The mine had also used chemicals to help but they only made the salt softer and failed to reduce build-up.
The Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner slowed down the salt formation and the eventual blockage of piping used for dewatering the mine site. As a result, the amount of time spent on maintenance was reduced and dewatering increased.
Coal mine in the Hunter Valley
A coal mine in the Hunter Valley is trialing a Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner at its washery to prevent scale problems in the water systems, solenoids, water seal glands, spray bars and other appliances.
Zinc and lead mine north of Mt Isa
A zinc and lead Mine north of Mt Isa has used Delta technology to tackle scale in crib rooms, kitchens, an ice machine and hot -water system. Scale build-up in the ice machine required the mine to fly in a maintenance man from Townsville once a month.
After the installation of a Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner, scale no longer formed. A side benefit of the Delta treatment was hat the cloudy ice became clear.
Premature failure of hotwater systems and blockages of pipes and fittings has been eliminated and as a result, reduced maintenance costs and time.
Delta nursing home success
Calcium build-up on pressure-release and mixer valves on hot-water systems was a problem at Orana Gardens Retirement Village. That was until a trial with a Delta Magnetic Water Conditioner.
The home has about 90 hot-water systems that required a six-monthly plumbing service. Installation of a Magnetic Water conditioner has reduced maintenance costs. The facility also has a six-week program to check pressure-release valves. These valves originally needed replacing every two to three weeks but now need replacing about every eight weeks. There is also a reduction of calcium on the valves.
Personal-care staff also noticed an increase in the efficiency of shampoos and soaps as well us a reduction in the amount of detergent needed for washing machines. |
