Pollution and maintenance free

Delta capturing attention in South Africa

DELTA magnetic technology is proving a major ally for farmers, home-owners and community leaders battling to make the most of poor-quality water in South Africa.

DELTA Magnetic Water Conditioners are taking the edge off 'hard' bore water and freeing up pipes, tanks and irrigation systems susceptible to scale blockage and corrosion.

Kayne Kingwill, an Eastern Cape Province farmer at Graaff-Reinet, is spreading the word about DELTA products in South Africa through DELTAwater SA. His efforts in promoting the many benefits the conditioners present are attracting considerable attention.

Kayne spoke to reporter Roelof Bezuidenhout from South African farming magazine Farmer's Weekly about how the DELTA magnetic products, which clamp onto outlet pipes, 'softened' and improved the taste of water and reduced scale formation and corrosion in pipes and irrigation systems.

He explained how a magnetic field created by the conditioners could reduce water surface tension and increase its ability to retain oxygen. The changes allowed minerals to crystallize in the water instead of surfaces such as the inside of pipes and reduced the impact of salt molecules on plants and soil.

Bezuidenhout reported that magnetically treated water allowed soaps, cleaning chemicals and fertilisers to work better and was particularly good for recirculation systems such as air-conditioners and swimming pools. "For stock-watering systems, once a pipe is clean it stays clean, as long as water continues flowing," Kayne says.

Kayne Kingwill is working with environmental pollution and control specialist Claud Arnott in promoting the DELTA products. Case studies around the world have revealed the conditioners can benefit crop, livestock and game and mining production by simply improving water quality.

Kayne told Farmer's Weekly that DELTA could tailor-make solutions to meet a range of water-supply problems. He said: "Usually we deal with 50-millimetre pipe but we can go up to 350mm for irrigation. The magnets last for at least 25 years and are maintenance free."
